UPDATE FRIDAY MORNING: With air quality continuing to worsen, we have canceled meal distribution that had been scheduled for Friday afternoon outside 36 of our schools. Our original message from Thursday below has been edited to reflect the change.

Dear PPS Families and Staff,

With air quality forecasted to diminish further within Portland city limits, we are closing all school buildings on Friday, with the exception of limited meal distribution services. All site-based activities other than meal distribution are canceled for Friday at all PPS buildings.

Friday  is the last day of soft start, and virtual school will continue as planned. We understand that some staff and students are without power at this time. A limited-access solution for teachers who need access to power or internet will be communicated to staff. 

(The following paragraph is no longer valid) PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN MEAL DISTRIBUTION HOURS FOR FRIDAY: 3:00-4:00 p.m. In addition, we will not serve meals at Woodlawn Elementary tomorrow. All other PPS meal distribution sites will be open from 3:00-4:00 p.m. 

We continue to monitor the devastating wildfires in our region. We know that many of our employees and families are affected in some way by these fires and our thoughts are with them, and with everyone impacted.
